In rebuttal: Mark Wood: Abortion not ‘a civil right from any angle’
Bob Neal’s June 26 column, “Dancing on the Head of a Pin,” left me more than a little bit annoyed. He claims to have learned his Sunday school lesson, “Thou shalt not kill,” but he still believes it is a civil right for women to kill their unborn children. He embraced ethical pluralism and its […]

The state Legislature recently passed the Maine Buy American and Build Maine Act, and now it’s up to Gov. Janet Mills to sign it. Chelsea Washburn: Legislators should back Mainers on power corridor
I live in Durham, a peaceful town, with the space to do what most here love: fishing, hunting and hiking, amongst many other adventurous, outdoor activities. Clearly, neither she nor her handlers wanted pictures of people wading, walking and jumping fences to get into the U.S. with her there.

Froma Harrop: Black Democrats save the party once again
How often do African Americans have to save the Democratic Party from its left wing? With Black voters having just thrust a moderate ex-cop to the head of the pack in New York City’s mayoral race, it’s the second time in just over a year they’ve done it.

Donna Joss: Vaccination deal subpar for Palestinians
According to recent reports, the Palestinian Authority has cancelled a deal where Israel would transfer nearly 1 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to be used by the PA to vaccinate Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza. In exchange, Israel would get a similar number of vaccines originally meant to go to Palestinians, shipped […]

Frank Kieliszek: Sen. Collins wrong on voting rights bill
Sen. Susan Collins recently voted to avoid debate on the voting rights bill, stating it “would take away the rights of people in each of the 50 states to determine which election rules work best for their citizens.” Sen. Collins purposely ignores the history of voter suppression in this country: Poll taxes, bogus literacy tests, […]
