Harolyn Zaldumbide: Support for Naomi Osaka
I support Naomi Osaka. After watching professional tennis for over 50 years, I’ve seen enough to know that sometimes criticism is pointed in the wrong direction and questions are not always fair or appropriate in following interviews. The Tennis Association needs to change its “iron-fistedness” and care more about players’ needs; show more compassion. I’ve […]

In rebuttal: David Plimpton: Letter ‘full of misinformation’ about Israel war crimes
Joel Goodman’s recent letter to the editor (“In rebuttal: Joel Goodman: Gilbert wrong about apartheid in Israel,” May 30) supporting Israel’s war crimes against unarmed Palestinians, including women and children, is full of misinformation, disinformation and hyperbole. The recent violence, in which 227 Palestinians, including 64 children died (while 12 Israelis died), was not started […]

Kevin Landry: People need equal opportunities, not equal outcomes
There is a growing push by educators across the country to adopt “anti-racism” curricula in our schools. Critical Race Theory is a Marxist-inspired discipline that categorizes people as either “oppressors” or “oppressed.” It uses pleasant-sounding euphemisms such as “equity” and “culturally responsive teaching” to incorporate their indoctrinating ideas to the young and vulnerable. Parents are […]

Leonard Pitts Jr.: Where Black history is concerned, America specializes in not knowing
Now it gives that conspiracy of ignorance the force of law, requiring that we prioritize white people’s emotional comfort above truth. For all people of conscience, that should be an easy call. A hundred years later, let’s finally speak some truth.
And let comfort fend for itself.

Heather Davis: Invest in personal care workforce
Daily, tens of thousands of Maine workers provide vital daily supports and services to older people, people with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities, and people with behavioral health challenges, to ensure they thrive in their homes and community settings. That said, weekly at SeniorsPlus we cannot find 10,000 hours of personal care coverage. This means […]
