Hannah Longley and Eric Samson: Mental health is not addressed behind bars
In recent years, it was discovered that roughly 30% of the residents at the Androscoggin County Jail have been previously diagnosed with a mental health challenge, with the numbers being projected to increase due to the number of individuals who have been unable to receive appropriate treatment within the community setting, resulting in no diagnosis being given. County jails provide more mental health services than any other entity in the state, despite not being the appropriate entity.

We need better COVID booster shots, not more of the same
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were supposed to be easy to update, and they are, but scientists got disappointing news when they tested omicron-specific boosters in animals and found they worked no better than the original boosters. Although the existing boosters are pretty good, they are not nearly good enough to prevent thousands of breakthrough infections, some of them pretty nasty.

Stan Tetenman: We are stronger when learning historical truth
Teaching our true history is not about making children feel bad about being white. It is to teach them what white people have done well and what we have done poorly. They should know that much of our early prosperity was based on the forced labor of enslaved people.
