I remember a day when Sundays and holidays were special days to spend with family, going to church and being able to relax and not worry about work.
Because of the Maine blue laws, retailers get three holidays off a year (barely that on Thanksgiving Day). Corporate greed continues to push the envelope on the few holidays people employed in retail businesses get to enjoy.
Perhaps Greg Hawes at G&M Market in Holden would be so kind as to share his profits with the employees who would be required to work in his store on those holidays (BDN story, printed in the Sun Journal Nov. 25).
