BETHEL — A new family-friendly venue to indulge in sweet treats, rain or shine, is coming to Bethel.

The Sugar Shack, owned by business partners John Gobel of the Portland area and Randy Autrey of Bethel will hold a grand opening Saturday, April 29, at 156 West Bethel Road.

Customers can enjoy ice cream inside or outside. Inside is a family area with books and toys for children.

“It’s really a small community-type operation,” Gobel said.

Lisa and Wes Miller will operate the dessert bar. Gobel said their motto is, “Eat your dinner anywhere, but come here for dessert.”

Patrons can enjoy treats such as pie, soft-serve ice cream and pastries, along with Gifford’s hard-serve ice cream. Coffee and other beverages are available.

For now, Gobel said, they are still working on creating specialties, as well as an easily accessible parking lot at the former Hitching Post Diner.

“Parking has always been a free-for-all here, but we’re working on getting some lines (painted). Until then, just park anywhere,” Gobel said.

The Sugar Shack hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Free kiddie cones will be given with every purchase at the grand opening.
