BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Art & Agriculture Tour, held on Sept. 12, was a successful Mahoosuc Way sustainable tourism initiative to get newcomers from out of town into Bethel and the surrounding regions, to see the local sites.
Visitors drove from farm to farm in their own vehicle so they were safely socially distancing while they saw not just Bethel’s farms, but local artists and musicians as well as local food producers. The purpose was to support local businesses.
There were six different farms each visitor could visit. Each of the artists at the farm were doing different projects; one of artists was doing sculpting, another dying clothes indigo, etc. The farms were serving fun types of food such as wood-fire pizza, or had food available to buy.
The six different farms were: Carter’s, Swain’s, Morning Glory, Le Ferm, Dunham’Farm, Velvet Hollow Sugar Works, and Sweet Tart. On the map the visitors were given was also a group called, ‘The Friends and Fun,’ which included recommended pit stops such as Suds Pub, Mouhoustic Pollinator Garden, and Sugar Shack.
Overall, the rotary club, which strongly supported the initiative, received positive feedback.
