ANSWER: Although our summer weather isn’t over yet, we’re revving up for all those fabulous fall fairs and I’m here for all of them!
If your organization is having a fair fundraiser this fall, please get your information to me as soon as you can, and let me know if you are renting tables and space you need volunteers, or donations of goods and services, or cash. People are often willing to help but you have to ask!
I want to add that for these events and for all Sun Spots letters, please send the information you want in the column in an email or in an attached WORD document. You can also mail a handwritten letter to the Sun Journal (address is below). Please do not send a PDF or ADOBE document, a screen shot, or poster formats. Be sure to add your contact information in case I have questions. Thank you!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library are pleased to invite the community to their annual Fall Book and Bake Sale at the New Gloucester Public Library, located at 379 Intervale Road, on Sunday, Oct. 4, from noon to 3 p.m.
A members-only preview sale will take place earlier that day from 11 a.m. to noon. Community members who are not yet part of the Friends are encouraged to join at the event to enjoy early access while supporting the library.
The Friends Book and Bake Sale is a cherished New Gloucester tradition, dating back to the 1960s when discarded library books were first sold to raise funds. Today, the event continues to bring neighbors together to browse a wide selection of gently used books — perfect for stocking up on fall and winter reading, while enjoying homemade cookies, bars, and other baked treats.
Proceeds from the sale help the Friends support library programs, activities, and other initiatives that benefit the New Gloucester community. — Annemarie, New Gloucester
ANSWER: There’s nothing like a good library book sale — I know dozens of people I can share this with and they will be there with bells on. The fact that you have sweet snacks is a bonus!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m curious to know if anyone or any organizations in the L-A area are going to throw a Dolly Parton party this weekend? I think it would be wonderful if we could get folks together to dress up and have karaoke or something like that! — Joey, Lewiston
ANSWER: It is a great idea! Today (Wednesday) some of my friends and I gathered for lunch and wore our glitzy jewelry and sequined clothing. We put together a Dolly playlist, drank sweet tea, and talked about that magnificent, lovable woman. So my thought is that you put up your own party. Make something with potatoes — that’s Dolly’s favorite food!
Readers, if you know of any Dolly happenings, please share the info!
