The FBI arrested a registered sex offender of Lewiston on Thursday on a federal charge of possession of child sexual abuse material at a residence on Sabattus Street in Lewiston.
Steven William Bragdon, 41, was previously convicted of visual sexual aggression against a child and possession of sexual abuse material of a minor under age 12 in 2014.
Federal agents were seen at the address Thursday afternoon. A member of a Lewiston Police Department task force assisted the FBI with the arrest.
Bragdon was taken Thursday night to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
He is listed as a lifetime registrant on the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
In the previous case, Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit began an investigation in 2013 into suspicious activity involving the distribution of child sexual abuse material in Waterville, which led to Bragdon’s conviction .
Bragdon was arrested again in 2016 while on probation for the previous conviction when he lived in Vassalboro. He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of sexual misconduct with a child under 12 years old and a second misdemeanor of prohibited contact with a minor. It is unclear how that case was resolved.
An FBI spokesperson was not immediately available Friday to give more information on Thursday’s arrest.
