LEWISTON — A second person, a 15-year-old local teen, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting downtown on Sunday afternoon, police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent said Wednesday.

Police charged the boy with attempted murder and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon in the 3 p.m. shooting at Walnut and Shawmut streets.

The teen, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, has been taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

Earlier in the week, police arrested 20-year-old Mohammud Osman after the city’s Flock cameras zeroed in on a vehicle that had been driven away from the area of the shooting.

Police said Osman was near the vehicle when investigators tracked it down.

Osman was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon near a dwelling and driving with a suspended license.

Police did not say what led them to charge the 15-year-old with attempted murder, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

No victim was found when police investigated the Sunday shooting.

Police are investigating a number of shootings that have vexed the city over the past few weeks, and since the start of the previous summer in particular.

Investigators said the Flock cameras helped lead them to both suspects in the Sunday afternoon shooting.
