The Lunch Table is opening Friday at 884 Lisbon St. in the former spot occupied by Hometown Soup & Salad, which closed in February. It has a familiar ring, with the new owner, Bronwyn Knight, promising to offer a quick and healthy lunch option Tuesday through Saturday.
Knight purchased the business from the owners of Hometown Soup & Salad.
According to a news release from the city of Lewiston, the menu features soups, salads, sandwiches/paninis and crepes. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is first foray into restaurant ownership for Knight, although she has eight years of hospitality experience, including working as sous-chef at The Green Ladle, managing Panera Bread and working at Fish Bones Grill and DaVinci’s Eatery.
“Our goal is to provide a healthy alternative to fast-food chains, by serving fresh food during an expanded lunch time frame, for those who get an early lunch and have a later lunch,” Knight said Tuesday. “Our salad bar is stocked with fresh produce from Blackies, our sandwiches are stacked between fresh bread from Heidi’s. Our soups are made by Hurricanes, and our cookies are my own recipe.”
Tambrands expansion continues at hectic pace
One year after employees at Procter & Gamble’s Tambrands tampon production plant were told about expansion plans at 2879 Hotel Road in Auburn, there’s more coming.
Auburn’s planning and permit office approved another application May 22 for a $15 million, 47,000-square-foot, two-story addition to the southwest corner of the facility. A spokesman for parent company Procter & Gamble said it’s all part of the company’s push to expand capacity at the state-of-the-art facility by adding production space, offices, conference rooms and utilities.
Last year, the company started work on a $15 million, 116,000-square-foot addition for production and warehouse space.
Since 2000, the company has invested more than $350 million in the Auburn plant.
The plant is the only production facility for Tampax brand products in North America. It also supplies product for Europe and Asia.
Procter & Gamble and other tampon manufacturers faced sporadic shortages in stores around the country in 2022. There have been no widespread reports of tampon shortages since late last summer.
Sliders Sports Pub hoping to become Lewiston’s cornhole destination and more
The newest tenant at Lewiston Mall on Lisbon Street is hoping to lure cornhole enthusiasts to the area’s first official cornhole sports bar and grill. Plans are to fill the massive 9,000-square-foot space with seven boards, a retail pro shop, restaurant seating, bar and a stage for live music and events.
Co-owner Tyler Babb said the pro shop will sell memorabilia, T-shirts, cornhole bags and cornhole boards. “One of the things that’s really unique is the boards that we’re going to be selling are the boards that you’re going to be using in the cornhole area, so you can play before you buy,” he said.
Babb and his partner Aaron Daigle have started renovations and hope to have Sliders Sports Pub open by mid-August in the former B&K Buffet space. However, they said they are fully aware of the realities of the hurdles facing a startup business, even though this is their first experience with that.
The entrepreneurs have ambitious plans for the hours of the new venue, targeting 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with an even earlier start on the weekend to capture the brunch crowd. The plan is to have a full liquor license and premium sliders such as smash burgers, fried chicken and pulled pork.
“I’m just really excited to open and I personally know the cornhole community is super large in this area and in New England in general,” Babb said. “I’m just looking forward to giving the the community a new place to go and have a healthy competition as well.”
