Ronald Lebel: Lewiston: Image versus reality
There are few things we can do as a community to better correct our image than to recognize, applaud and celebrate those students who demonstrate that Lewiston’s public schools are producing graduates who can compete with, and outperform, the best students in all of Maine.

Christine Holden: Lewiston councilors should choose words carefully
Watching and listening to the debate at Jan. 3’s Lewiston City Council meeting on the proposed amendment to the Rules Governing the City Council was saddening in several respects. The amendment, apparently provoked by a desire to alter the role of the mayor during debates and voting, was wordy and duplicative of much of the […]

Elizabeth Eames: Why the effort to ‘muzzle’ Lewiston mayor?
I attend most Lewiston City Council Meetings in silence, but at Jan. 3’s meeting I was moved to speak publicly against a parliamentary maneuver to muzzle the current — and all future — mayors. No one else made my point (viewable at 3:25:00 on the city’s recording), which was that no matter what he says […]

Michael Boom: Americans should embrace opportunity, not give up
In slang terms, a washout is someone or something that proves an utter failure. Since when did being a washout become something to espouse to in America? The aimlessness and desperation that drives people is rampant and getting worse by the day. Our nation is in desperate straits when we are collectively throwing our hands […]

Diane Grandmaison: Silencing mayor silences all Lewiston residents
We should be thankful that Carl Sheline ran to be our mayor. He has been known to be a mayor for all the people of Lewiston. He is out and about talking to people rich, poor, homeless, professionals, young and old, or just a person on the street. He listens to their views and opinions […]
