Jeff Gondeck: LePage would get Maine back on right track as governor
Who did people expect U.S. Sen. Angus King to endorse? He’s a Democrat to the bone, so there is no way he’d back Paul LePage for governor. King has made millions off the Maine people who seem to worship the ground he walks on. Time for him to dry up and blow away. LePage would […]

Leonard Pitts Jr.: Money no longer fears LGBTQ people
More to the point, it understands that there is a market here. And if some LGBTQ folk are concerned by the commodification and merchandising of their identity, it’s nevertheless important to understand what the very fact of those processes suggests: that the battle for hearts and minds is over, and LGBTQ won.

Michel Lajoie: Coffin would represent county well as commissioner
I support William Coffin for Androscoggin County commissioner. I’ve known Bill for several years. We met through the Lewiston Democratic Committee and the Androscoggin Democratic Committee. Bill is a graduate of Lewiston High School and the University of Southern Maine, obtaining a bachelor of science in vocational technology magna cum laude. He is also a […]

Martin Keim: Political candidates should put resources to better use
I have one wish. It’s not unattainable. That wish is that all the people running for political office would take even a fraction of the money they spend on their political ads and political signs, and use it to build housing for the homeless. Do our politicians really believe that the endless political ads and […]

Rich Lowry: Don’t fear Elon Musk
Elon Musk is about to pollute the country’s discourse, and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop him. This is the alarm going up about the eccentric billionaire’s on-again, off-again, on-again-if-it-looks-like-a-Delaware-court-is-going-to-insist-on-it acquisition of Twitter.

Heather Marsters: DA candidate McLean is committed to keeping community safe
As a mom and lifelong resident of Oxford County, I’m supporting Neil McLean for district attorney for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. Neil has many years of experience as a prosecutor. I know firsthand his commitment to keeping our community safe. I also know he is a father of four school-age children. I’ve heard him […]

Ronella Paradis: Maine’s public health system needs Gov. Mills
I ask people to vote for Janet Mills for governor because I’m a retired public health nurse and saw what Paul LePage’s administration did to Maine’s public health system. LePage dismantled the system and hired people who weren’t public health experts. When I started working as a public health nurse there were over 50 nurses […]

Marianne O’Connor: ‘The choice for governor is as clear as Moosehead Lake’
I wonder if people saw the ad by the Republican Governor’s Association, suggesting Paul LePage understands economic hardship. In it, we hear how LePage survived a heartbreaking childhood; he was homeless, he understands. But if LePage understood the pain of poverty, why did so many Maine children and families suffer from food insecurity during his […]

Richard Fortier: I will vote only for Democrats, independents
I cannot support a political party whose leader refuses to concede the presidential election that he clearly lost. Aided by his co-conspirators, including some Republican congressmen, he pushed the lie that the election was stolen from him, while he himself conspired to steal it from American voters. He fosters the use of violence and intimidation […]
