In rebuttal: Norman Smith: Stop blame game, unite America
I write in response to Mary Jones’ Jan. 20 letter to the editor, “Trump impeachment will not heal.” Mary writes, “The power of the word for good and evil cannot be underestimated, but only when the words are sincere.” She further states, “The platitudes from Democrat leaders about reconciliation and healing are far from sincere.” […]

Phyllis Caron: Trump got others to do his fighting
Look what’s happening now. What has President Trump done? He’s turned a lot of people into aggressors. Trump is the ringleader of the Capitol attack. But if you look around, where is he? He is a coward and is now hiding from the reality; a hypocrite, a bully and a liar. He wants others to […]

George Mathews: Trump’s promises made were promises kept
Many wonder why President Trump received so many millions more votes on his reelection bid than he did the first time. For me, it’s simple: promises made, promises kept. Because he was a political outsider, he had the unique ability to separate himself from the “swamp,” and tell the blunt truth, and he delivered. Many […]

George Fogg: State is failing older people during pandemic
Government again fails us at a critical time. Presently the state is supposedly running a COVID-19 vaccine program, but is horribly failing the older people who most deserve it. I know a veteran of 87 who is in the most urgent risk category because of sickness, living alone and being unable to drive as the […]

Lewiston man leading Kora Shriners during 2021
LEWISTON — Kora Shriners held their annual election and installation of officers on Jan. 8, and elected Brent Tanguay of Lewiston to serve as Kora’s potentate for 2021. In a COVID-19-compliant ceremony, Tanguay was installed as many Kora nobles, family and friends watched via Zoom. “It is a tremendous honor to serve as Kora’s potentate […]

Amy Partridge-Barber: Energy project helps companies, not Maine
A friend once said, “the more ads you see for something, the worse it is for you.” They were talking about junk food, but I could say the same for Central Maine Power/Avangrid, who’ve spent $16 million to sell us on the New England Clean Energy Connect, a project Mainers know precious little about. NECEC […]
