Cal Thomas: Is modern media more biased than before?
There is a perception, supported by many surveys, that what passes for contemporary journalism is more biased, even propagandistic, than in earlier times. One of the definitions of “journalism” on Dictionary.com will affirm that attitude for many: “writing that reflects superficial thought and research, a popular slant, and hurried composition…”

Catherine Ferrell: Prioritize vaccinations over impeachment
Maine has a troubling number of new COVID-19 cases daily. Residents are struggling to put food on the table, educate children, keep family members safe, and just come out on the other side of the pandemic intact. Life as we knew it is a thing of the past. Neighbors are now afraid to help neighbors. […]

Cathy Newell: Praise for online learning opportunities
The Sun Journal’s Jan. 24 article about the online opportunities that School Administrative District 52 Adult Education is providing to brighten the lives of folks during the pandemic was a highlight of that issue. My years in adult education in SAD 44 and at the Maine Adult Education Association covered the introduction of technology and […]

Nancy Leeman: Let’s respect our differences
Why does it happen, if you disagree with what someone says, that a campaign of hate rises up? I thought we wanted to eradicate hate. Censorship has become the new norm. We as Americans took pride in the freedom of free speech. I am not promoting taking matters in your own hands and to encourage […]

Gil Steward: Where are the vaccines?

Renee Cote: Sen. Collins is out of touch
This is a letter about our senior senator, Susan Collins, who was returned to the Senate by 51% of Maine voters. The woman who thought Trump had learned his lesson from his first impeachment continued to show her cluelessness by telling news organizations that her first thought while the Capitol building was being stormed was […]

In rebuttal: Robert Casimiro: Support for Electoral College
A recent letter on eliminating the Electoral College was totally off the mark. (“High time for Electoral College to go,” Paul Baribault, Jan. 23). The author refers to the “contrived genesis” of the Electoral College. It was hardly contrived, but a seriously debated issue, discussed off and on over the summer of 1787 in Philadelphia, […]

Lou Giard: Republican officials are ‘servants of the people’
I’m very upset about the fact that Sen. Rand Paul has succeeded in convincing the Republican Party that the impeachment of Donald Trump is unconstitutional — after all that he caused to happen at our Capitol Building. Trump has a lifelong history of taking advantage of people and constantly tweeting negative messages to confuse and […]
