On Sept. 20, the New York Times ran a profile on Troy Jackson, “A Progressive Brawler Tries to Flip a Senate Seat in Maine.”
Progressive races this cycle have two issues which play large: the treatment of Palestinians and AIPAC attempting to influence races. Despite the primacy of these issues, the Times never mentioned Jackson’s views on the treatment of Palestinians or the millions of dollars from AIPAC and AIPAC-adjacent donors going to Sen. Susan Collins’ campaign.
The article did find room for the 1988 alleged pushing incident between Jackson and his partner. As the Times reported, both Jackson and his partner deny the incident.
The Times’ Israel coverage has drawn criticism, including reported internal guidance for reporters to avoid terms like “genocide” and “occupied territory.” We saw how the Times was dogged in taking down Graham Platner; a pattern.
Maine deserves fair elections free of outside influence. We must remain vigilant as Election Day approaches.
